Cahokia Mounds Historic Site (Collinsville)
Interpretive Center: Thurs–Sun 9-5 Grounds: Open dawn- dusk
A UNESCO site with well maintained grounds. Some mounds have a lot of steps. Suggested donation is $7 for adults, $5 for seniors, $2 for students, and $15 for families.
Gardens at SIUE (Edwardsville)
A botanical garden featuring a half-mile paved walking path, a pergola, a wooden bridge, and native trees. Butterfly, English cottage, wind sculpture, prairie, and Japanese themed gardens. A great place for photos. Leashed Dogs are welcome.

Nature Institute (Godfrey)
A non-profit land conservation and environmental education organization. There is ample parking and well marked trails.
St. John's Mission Garden (Edwardsville)

Every second Saturday of the month, volunteers work to remove invasive species, establish native biodiversity, tend to wooden structures, maintain the trails, and more. Dress prepared to do dirty work.
